March Climbing
March took me to five different gyms! For a total of 175 climbs across 13 climbing days.
If I remember correctly, my goals for the month were to continue to lead when it was an option and to get on harder climbs and accept “attempts” rather than completions. I did exactly neither of those - in fact, I didn’t lead a single climb the entire month! It was kind of a strange month with the setting schedule at my home gym and other events and plans. However, my third goal was to switch from writing these on facebook to writing them on my website, so at least I can check one of those off!
March included some special events:
- A ropes citizens competition, where I placed 10th in the intermediate category (not divided by gender, but my guess is 2nd for women based on names). This also means that some marked “attempt” are from a competition fall and I wasn’t able to continue on, where I’d usually try to get what I call a “top.”
- An endurance challenge to climb 1492 feet in a day. I climbed exactly 1500 feet, in about 5 hours because I did not plan well, and it took me 46 routes, no repeating allowed! This will be why I am very low-grade heavy this month, and also included my first 5.10 TR falls in just over a year because I was just so dang tired after the first 20!
And some fun or notable individual routes:
- What I’m pretty sure is my first 12a flash!!
- A partner climb

April Goals
- Get back on lead! Hopefully they set some friendlier ones soon, but I really enjoyed how leading was more of a “default” in February, and I’d be happy to get back to that.
- Big focus to help some new leaders who just finished their class get confidence with the skills and pass their tests, so this might mean less climbs for me while I do the TR belay on groups of 3.
